Weekly Honors to Heymach, Hicks

STANFORD, Calif. -- Two Stanford runners -- Julia Heymach and Charles Hicks -- earned Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week honors for their performances at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field on Friday night.

Heymach ran the fastest collegiate women's 1,500-meter time this year, 4:11.00, while placing third overall and first among collegians. The race marked the outdoor season debut for Heymach, who last raced outdoors at the Olympic Trials last summer, placing sixth at the same distance in a school-record 4:04.84, the fourth-fastest in collegiate history.

In a race that featured the five fastest 10,000-meter times by collegians this year, Hicks ran 27:40.16 to place third overall and second among collegians. The time was the 20th-fastest in collegiate history.

Hicks, the reigning Pac-12 10,000 champion, also strengthened his hold on the No. 2 spot in Stanford history and is No. 6 all-time in the Pac-12. Behind him were teammates Cole Sprout in fourth in 27:42.42 and Ky Robinson in sixth in 27:47.11 in their debuts at that distance. They are now Nos. 2-4 in Stanford history and Nos. 6-8 in conference history.
