Lim's Big Day

MORAGA, Calif. – A seven-run top of the second led No. 24 Stanford softball to a 10-1 victory in five innings, Wednesday afternoon. The win gives the Cardinal (33-16) a 25-6 record in nonconference games on the season and matches the most wins in a season in Jessica Allister's tenure as head coach, with two weeks remaining in the regular season. (2019, 2021).

Kaitlyn Lim was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run on the afternoon. Taylor Gindlesperger scored two runs with two RBI, and Sydnee Huff batted in two runs.

Stanford batted through the order in the second inning, with Lim becoming the first player since Whitney Burks to have two hits in an inning (March 11, 2018; vs. UCSB). The junior opened the inning with a single and scored on a double to the fence from Aly Kaneshiro that nearly left the park. The latter advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Caelan Koch sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead and only one out.

An Emily Schultz singled followed by back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Cardinal, with another run coming across the plate on a single from Gindlesperger. Emily Young joined the party with a single to load the bases once again, and all three runs scored on Lim's triple to deep center field.

Saint Mary's pulled a run back in the bottom-half of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 7-1 Stanford lead entering the third inning. RBI singles from Gindlesperger and Huff – a two-run hit to the shortstop – made it a 10-1 game. Both runs came with two outs in the inning.

Regan Krause and Molly Millar held the Gaels to three hits on the afternoon, striking out three in five innings.

The Cardinal closes out its home slate this weekend against No. 22/25 Oregon, May 5-8. All three games will air on Pac-12 Networks.
