CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, No. 18 Stanford men's tennis outlasted No. 14 Harvard, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center. Stanford improves to 19-5 this season and 10-1 all-time against the Crimson.
The Cardinal took a hard-fought doubles point with wins on court three and court two. Max Basing and Timothy Sah picked up their second win together this weekend on court three, winning, 6-3, before Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert matched their teammates with a 7-5 victory on court two.
Rotsaert expeditiously finished off his opponent in the fourth position, winning in 14 total games, 6-2, 6-0. Fery rallied for a three-set victory on court one, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, but Harvard responded to tie the match at 3-3 with wins at five and six.
Stepping up to clinch the match, Max Basing won the final three games in his third set to win 7-5 and send the Cardinal to the next round. Basing trailed after one set, but held strong for his 22nd win of the campaign.
The Cardinal faces the winner of Baylor and Texas A&M in the Sweet 16.
