STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Alex Williams and junior Brock Jones were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, the organization announced on Wednesday. Williams earned a spot on the first team, while Jones landed on the second team for the second consecutive season.
Williams is just the third Cardinal baseball player to be named to the first team, joining Tom Williams (1972) and Brendan Beck (2021).
The 2022 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Williams carries a 3.42 GPA as a management science and engineering major. The 2022 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year is 8-2 with a conference-best 2.35 ERA over 16 starts this season. The Cardinal ace has logged 95 2/3 innings while striking out 89 compared to 23 walks.
Shining in Pac-12 play, the Collegiate Baseball All-American went 5-0, sporting a 1.36 ERA over 10 starts and 66 1/3 innings. A semifinalist for the 2022 College Baseball Hall of Fame National Pitcher of the Year Award, Williams went 6-0 with a 0.45 ERA (3 ER in 59 2/3 innings) over his final eight starts in the regular season.
Jones, an All-Pac-12 first team selection, has batted .323 with 72 runs scored, 13 doubles, five triples, 17 homers and 50 RBIs for the Cardinal this season. Stanford's starting center fielder, he has swiped 15 bases in 20 attempts while reaching base at a .457 clip. The native of Fresno, Calif. carries a 3.59 GPA as a science, technology and society major.
Stanford is preparing to host a super regional against UConn beginning Saturday at 7:30 p.m. from Sunken Diamond.
