Fischer, Forde and McGinley Named Academic All-Americans

STANFORD, Calif. - Honored as elite student-athletes in the classroom and in the water, three Stanford women's student-athletes have been named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in the at-large category. Makenzie Fischer (women's water polo) was named the Academic All-America Women's At Large Team member of the year, and joined Brooke Forde (women's swimming and diving) and Grace McGinley (women's rowing) on the first team.

Honored as the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team Member of the Year for the second time in her career (2019, 2022), Fischer is also a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large (2018, 2019, 2022). Fischer was Stanford's NCAA Elite 90 Award nominee this season, boasting a 4.032 undergraduate GPA and 4.0 graduate GPA in mechanical engineering while also being named a three-time ACWPC All-Academic recipient and three-time MPSF All-Academic Team honoree. A two-time Peter J. Cutino Award honoree (2019, 2022), Fischer returned to the pool this season for the first time since 2019 due to both Olympic training/competition and pandemic-shortened seasons. A two-time ACWPC Player of the Year and four-time ACWPC All-American, Fischer guided Stanford to the 2022 NCAA title while becoming the Cardinal's all-time scoring leading scorer in her final season.

This is the third time Forde has earned Academic All-America honors in her career after being named to the first team as both a junior and senior. This past season she led the Cardinal to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships as well as a Pac-12 team championship. Individually she was a member of Stanford's national championship 800 free relay team and first-team All-America honors in the 200 breast, 400 IM and the 500 free. Forde completed her degree in human biology and her master's in epidemiology and will be joining the Peace Corps.

A Classics and Linguistics major, McGinley earns her first Academic All-America honor. Her 4.00 overall GPA is matched by an impressive career in a Stanford shell. A member of the 2022 Pac-12 Champion squad, McGinley was a part of the Cardinal's conference championship-winning 3V8 boat that earned the program's first-ever title in the category at the league title chase. Academically, McGinley has not only collected NCAA Elite 90 honors (2021) but was also the 2021 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors in each of her seasons on The Farm.

With the three at-large selections on Wednesday, Stanford has now combined for 18 Academic All-America awards this season.
