Worlds on Deck

BUDAPEST - Jon Cook and Ron Polonsky will compete on the world stage this weekend at the 2022 FINA World Championships. Cook will race in the 100 and 200 breast for the Philippines while Polonsky will represent Israel in the 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.

A 2022 graduate of Stanford, Cook recently completed his swimming career on The Farm in March. A consistent contributor in the breaststroke events for Stanford, the Mill Creek, Washington native has his name among the best-ever at Stanford in both the 100 and 200 events.

In the 100 breast, Cook has the 15th-fastest time in program history at 53.21, a time he swam this season at the Pac-12 Championships. In the 200 breast, he owns the ninth-fastest time in program history at 1:53.72, a mark he also set at the conference championships this season.

Cook also represented the Philippines at the Short Course World Championships in December of 2021.

A freshman at Stanford this year, Polonsky has solidified himself among the best swimmers to ever compete for Stanford. In only one season on The Farm, Polonsky earned six All-America honors, won two Pac-12 event titles, and claimed four Stanford records while swimming the second-fastest time in program history in two other events.

Polonsky's marks in the 200 IM and 400 IM are both the second-fastest ever by a Stanford swimmer at 1:39.96 in the 200 and 3:39.49 in the 400. He also currently has the fourth-fastest time in the 200 breast, coming in at 1:51.73.

Polonsky is no stranger to international competition, either. The freshman also suited up for Israel last summer during the Tokyo Olympics, competing in the same three events.
