Joining the Cardinal after a successful collegiate lightweight rowing career at Boston University, Antonella Kugler has been named an assistant coach for the Stanford lightweight rowing program.
"I am absolutely thrilled to join the Stanford Athletics community and family," said Kugler. "Stanford Lightweight Rowing has become a perennial powerhouse in the lightweight league. This role is a dream come true and I am so grateful for the opportunity to begin my collegiate coaching career on The Farm. I would like to thank Madison Keaty and Derek Byrnes for this opportunity along with Molly Hamrick for her continuous support. I would also like to thank all of my previous coaches and mentors who have helped me get to where I am today, including but not limited to, Andrew McLaughlin, Katy Ruderman, Edward Mog, and Catie Szymanoski from Brookline Rowing, Malcolm Doldron and Abby Knight from Boston University and Taylor Brown and Jack Schofield from Austin Rowing Club."
Kugler spent her collegiate years competing for Boston University's Lightweight program, coxing the Terrier's Varsity Lightweight Four boat to top-three finishes at the IRA Championship regatta in all three of her appearances.
After graduating from BU, Kugler moved down to Austin, Texas, and got her first taste of coaching experience with Austin Rowing Club. Kugler was the assistant coach of ARC's Masters Racing team from February 2022 to July 2022 and was promoted to head coach of the program in July, where she was responsible for the team's overall training plan, practice, and regatta schedule. She also helped run Austin Rowing Club's inaugural summer U23 team.
"I am so excited to welcome Antonella to Stanford," noted associate head coach Madison Keaty. "Her enthusiasm paired with her knowledge and experience in collegiate lightweight rowing will benefit our team immensely."
Off the water, Kugler works for Oracle as a Business Analyst in Professional Services Mergers & Acquisitions.
Kugler graduated with a BA in Psychology and Philosophy with minors in applied human development and women, gender and sexuality studies in May of 2021.
