Basing, Basavareddy Shine at All-American Championships

STANFORD, Calif. – A busy week for Stanford tennis saw strong results both nationally and regionally, with Cardinal student-athletes finding success at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the ITA Northwest Regionals in Berkeley.

Taking the court for the first time this season, Max Basing reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships, taking down four ranked opponents over the weekend. The sophomore opened the weekend with three consecutive three-set victories, taking down opponents from Arizona, South Carolina and Texas, before downing the nation's fifth-ranked player in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-4. Basing's semifinal bout with Georgia's Philip Henning came down to the wire, with the Bulldog advancing to the final in three sets. With Basing's 4-1 start, he improves to 26-5 over his Stanford career with 13 wins over ranked opponents.

Nishesh Basavareddy burst onto the scene in his collegiate debut, finishing in fifth place at the All-American Championships after winning the consolation final. First, Basavareddy cruised through the qualifying stage with wins over UTSA, Arizona and Georgia, before falling in the first round of the main draw. Undeterred, Basavareddy's trek to the consolation victory included three wins over top-15 players nationally, including the ITA's No. 4 and No. 8 players. Starting his season 7-1 overall, Basavareddy's trophy-clinching win came over Ohio State's JJ Tracy, 6-3, 6-3.

Samir Banerjee also made his Stanford debut at the All-American Championships, going 1-1 in the qualifying round with a win over Utah State's David Cierny in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Closer to home in Berkeley, Filip Kolasinski was the top-seeded singles player at the ITA Northwest Regionals, with the Poland native going 3-0 in singles before withdrawing in the semifinals after suffering an injury. Kolasinki tallied wins over players from UC Davis, Nevada and California.

Neel Rajesh was also a seeded participant in Berkeley, going 1-1 with a win over Pacific's Peter Alam. Rajesh and Kolasinski also paired up in doubles, finishing with a 2-1 record and reaching the event's semifinal round.

Isaac Gorelik went 2-2 in Berkeley with wins over UC Davis and Sacramento State, while Anders Matta made his season debut as well, falling in a pair of tightly-contested bouts. Gorelik and Alex Lee also made appearances in the UC Davis Aggie Invite, but left without recording a victory.

The Cardinal returns to the Farm for the ITA Northwest Super Regionals, which will be held Oct. 21-24 at Taube Family Tennis Center.
