STANFORD, Calif. – Nishesh Basavareddy was impossible to stop at the ITA Northwest Super Regional, going 5-0 to take the tournament title and qualify for the ITA Fall National Championship.
Basavareddy, who won the consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championship, improves to 12-1 in his brief career with the results. He knocked off three consecutive West Coast Conference foes in the first three rounds before taking down a pair of Cal Golden Bears in the semifinal and championship match. Basavareddy didn't drop a set over the five matches and had three set wins of 6-0.
Neel Rajesh, Filip Kolasinski, Aryan Chaudhary and Isaac Gorelik each won one match, with Rajesh advancing to the round of 16 after a win over his opponent from Santa Clara. Samir Banerjee and Anders Matta were also in action in singles play.
In doubles, the duo of Basavareddy and Max Basing advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-0 win over a pair from Portland, but fell in the quarterfinal round, 8-6. Basing joins Basavareddy in the ITA Fall National Championship field, having booked his ticket with an automatic bid following his top-four result at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
The ITA Fall National Championships run Nov. 2-6 in San Diego, California. The Cardinal will look to repeat its success from 2021, where Arthur Fery reached the singles and doubles championship matches.
