PULLMAN, Wash. – Led by outside hitter Caitie Baird, No. 8 Stanford swept Washington State, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, Friday, at Bohler Gym.
Stanford (15-4, 10-1 Pac-12) hit .288 as a team, while holding Washington State (15-7, 7-4 Pac-12) to a .183 clip. The Cardinal racked up 50 digs, held a 5-1 advantage in aces and a 12.0 to 10.0 edge in blocks.
Baird led all players with 15 kills on .444 hitting to go with nine digs, three blocks and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Elia Rubin added 11 kills, eight digs and a match-high three aces.
Setter Kami Miner dished out 37 assists and had eight digs. The sophomore also brought the offense, recording a season-high five kills on nine errorless attempts to hit .556.
Opposite Kendall Kipp had 10 kills, eight digs, four blocks and an ace. Middle blocker McKenna Vicini posted five kills on .500 hitting and a team-high six blocks. Junior Annabelle Smith chipped in with three blocks and a kill. Smith started in place of Sami Francis, who was unavailable on Friday.
Libero Elena Oglivie anchored the Cardinal defense, finishing with a match-high 11 digs to go with four assists. Defensive specialist Taylor Beaven totaled four dig, while freshman Kelly Belardi had two.
Washington State was led by Laura Jansen and Magda Jehlarova who each had 12 kills. Jehlarova also had a match-high seven blocks.
The Cardinal has now won 11 straight over the Cougars and improved to 68-4 all-time.
Stanford wraps up its road trip on Sunday at No. 19 Washington. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
