Card Falls in Brew City Battle

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Playing in college basketball's first game on a Major League Baseball diamond since 2015, Stanford men's basketball dropped a gritty, defensive battle to Wisconsin, 60-50, on Friday evening at American Family Field. The Cardinal moves to 1-1 with the result.

Brandon Angel led the Cardinal with 14 points, while Michael Jones pitched in nine and Spencer Jones eight, in his first action of the season, to go along with four blocks. All nine players for the Cardinal scored at least two points.

The Cardinal shot just 36.2 percent from the floor and was 1-for-16 from 3-point range, but held Wisconsin to a similar 37.3 percent performance from the field.

Wisconsin led 32-20 after a first half in which Stanford missed all nine of its 3-point attempts, with Spencer Jones leading the way with eight points. Wisconsin had an 18-2 edge in points off turnovers in the first half.

Stanford cut Wisconsin's lead to 45-40 with 8:22 left but shot just 2 of 11 from the floor the rest of the way.

Billed as the "Brew City Battle," Friday's event was part of a doubleheader that started with a women's basketball game that Kansas State won 77-63 over Wisconsin. American Family Field has a retractable roof that was closed for Friday's games. The event had an announced attendance of 17,927 and included a combination of Milwaukee traditions.

Stanford returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at home against San Diego State. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
