GREENSBORO, N.C. - Stanford had a successful day two in North Carolina and Texas, with Jack Ryan earning an individual event win and 26 performances in the top 20. Seven of Stanford's swims and dives on day two earned a spot in the top four.
"It was another good day for us," said The Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming and Diving Dan Schemmel. "Shout out to Jack Ryan for winning the 3-meter in a very competitive environment. Our relays were better than this point last year which is very encouraging. We're looking forward to finishing strong tomorrow."
The Cardinal began the meet with a strong display in the 200 medley relay. Leon MacAlister, Ethan Dang, Jonathan Affeld, and Luke Maurer combined for a third place finish in the event, clocking a 1:24.76, just shy of an NCAA B Standard cut.
Stanford's B relay finished sixth overall in the event as well, as Josh Zuchowski, Zhier Fan, Rafael Gu, and Avery Voss finished with a 1:16.16.
In the first individual event of the session, Ron Polonksy was the top Stanford finisher in the 400 IM, coming in fourth place overall. His time of 3:44.50 earned him an NCAA B Standard time.
Rick Mihm finished 10th overall while Liam Custer took 15th, making it three Cardinal in the top 15 of the 400 IM.
Two Cardinal swam in the A final of the 100 fly, with Ethan Hu leading the way. He took fourth overall with a 45.86, earning him an NCAA B Standard cut. Aaron Sequeira was next, taking sixth and earning his own B cut.
Jonathan Affeld, Avery Voss, and Hayden Kwan each competed in the B final to make it five Cardinal in the top 20 of the 100 fly.
In the 200 free, Luke Maurer and Rafael Gu each qualified for the A final, taking seventh and eighth in the top heat. Maurer's time of 1:34.77 and Gu's time of 1:35.73 secured both swimmers an NCAA B Standard cut in the event.
Zhier Fan took third place in the 100 breast, swimming a 52.96, the 12th-fastest 100 breast in program history. Ethan Dang also earned a spot in the A final, taking sixth overall with a 53.48.
Stanford's record holder in the 100 back Leon MacAlister had a great swim on day two of the NC State/GAC Invite, swimming 45.82 and securing himself an NCAA B Standard cut. Aaron Sequeira was the next best finisher for the Card in the event, taking sixth overall with a 47.37 and his own B cut.
Zuchowski, Hu, and Shane Blinkman all added a finish within the top 20 as well.
Stanford closed out the evening with a third-place finish in the 800 free relay, as Ron Polonsky, Leon MacAlister, Rafael Gu, and Luke Maurer combined for a 6:17.35. They were joined in the A final by Rick Mihm, Liam Custer, Andrew Matejka, and Henry Morrissey who finished eighth overall with a 6:40.56.
Meanwhile, in Texas, Jack Ryan took the event title in the 3-meter. The sophomore diver advanced out of the quarterfinal round in second place, and scored a 411.85 to earn the win.
Ethan Foster finished 20th in the event, scoring 300.20 on the day.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday for the third and final days of the NC State/GAC Invite and the Texas Diving Invite.
