STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal gave fans much to cheer for in its first appearance of the 2022-23 season against outside competition, as No. 2 Stanford overwhelmed NAIA foe Vanguard 102-25 on Wednesday night.
All 15 players saw action, with 13 scoring points. Wednesday saw the debut of freshmen Lauren Betts, Lauren Green, Talana Lepolo, Indya Nivar and Stavi Papadaki along with redshirt freshman Jzaniya Harriel. The Cardinal shot 53 percent from the field, including 11-of-33 from 3-point land led by four made 3's from Hannah Jump.
Only leading 19-10 after a sluggish first quarter, Stanford allowed just 15 points the rest of the game and nearly pitched a shutout in the third period, outscoring the Lions 30-2.
Stanford opens the regular season on Monday, Nov. 7, hosting San Diego State at 7 p.m. inside Maples Pavilion.
