Stanford Pairs Head to AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships

STANFORD, Calif. -- Four members of the Stanford beach volleyball team accepted pairs invitations to compete in the first-ever Women's Pairs National Championship at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships Nov. 4-6. Fifth-year Charlie Ekstrom and Kate Reilly enter the 64-pair tournament as the No. 42 seed while junior Xolani Hodel and senior Maddi Kriz enter as the No. 45 seed.

Schools were awarded bids primarily based on their performance from the 2022 spring season. Stanford's coaching staff of head coach Andrew Fuller, assistant coach Summer Nash, and volunteer assistant coach Lauren Fendrick determined which student-athletes would compete in the pairs championship. Chosen pairs were then seeded the week of the championship using current MoVR rankings.

The national championship competition will consist of a three-day tournament with traditional pool play on day one, followed by bracket play—played to place—on days two and three. All pairs will compete on all three days.

Ekstrom/Reilly begin action this Friday in Pool 10, competing against pairs from FAU, Stetson, and the University of Arizona.

Hodel/Kriz start play on the same day in Pool 13, taking on pairs from TCU, FCGU and Georgia State University.

Both pairs compete in three matches on Nov. 4, beginning at 7 am PT. Results from pool play will seed the Stanford duos' action for the rest of the tournament.

Updates throughout the weekend can be found on the team's Twitter and Instagram accounts.
