STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Brooke Seay is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. A native of San Diego, Calif., Seay owns a 4.0 in human biology. She was presented with the award following Sunday's round three at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
"So awesome," Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker said. "That's the one award at Stanford I didn't know if we'd get our hands on. It's incredibly difficult to get in this field as a junior or senior, and then to be in the field and be able to best all these schools when you're at the premier institution in the world? I wasn't sure. Think of all the days of travel and commitment we have as a team. We are a year-round sport, we aren't a seasonal sport. So for Brooke to do that, it's absolutely unbelievable. And to be ranked in the Top 15 in the country, plus have the highest GPA in the whole field, it's hard to wrap your head around how good that is!"
Seay entered the NCAA Championships with five Top-10 finishes in six events this season. She was also invited to the Augusta National Women's Amateur, but decided to play in the Chevron Championship (LPGA Major) where she made the cut and earned Low Amateur honors.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level of his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years at their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Seay, who is the first Cardinal women's golfer in program history to be honored, is the third Stanford student-athlete to win the Elite 90 in their sport this academic year, joining Lexie Hull (women's basketball) and Haley Koo (fencing). Overall, she is the 28th Cardinal student-athlete to win the Elite 90.
