Top Coach in the Country

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's head coach Chris Klevan has been named Sail1Design's 2022 Coach of the Year following a massively successful campaign. Stanford earned six All-America selections following a top-five finish in the four disciplines of Coed Team, Coed Fleet, Women's Team, and Women's Fleet ICSA National Championships. Stanford's third place finish in the Women's Fleet matched the program's best ever national finish in the event from 2007.

Klevan also guided junior Michelle Lahrkamp to All-America honors in both the coed and women's divisions in 2022, the first time a sailor has earned an All-American distinction in both divisions. Earlier this season, Klevan led the Cardinal to a clean sweep of all four events in the conference championships, including the inaugural PCCSC women's team race championships.

Stanford took home two of the biggest awards the conference has to offer in 2022, as Jack Parkin and Michelle Lahrkamp earned the Coed and Women's Sailor of the year awards, respectively. The Cardinal also brought home 10 All-Conference awards, including two for Michelle Lahrkamp, who earned the honor for both the coed and women's divisions. Wiley Rogers, Jack Parkin, Hannah Freeman, Stephanie Houck, and Berta Puig also received skipper awards while Sammy Pickell, Patricia Gerli, and AnaClare Sole earned the crew honors.

The 2020-21 campaign saw similar levels of success, as Stanford finished in the top five in each of the three national championships. The Cardinal produced a second-place finish at the ICSA Coed Championships, while also placing fifth at the ICSA Women's and Team Race Championships. Klevan also coached two Stanford sailors to the highest individual achievement in collegiate sailing, as Jack Parkin and Michelle Lahrkamp became the first Stanford sailors to win ICSA National Sailor of the Year awards.
