STANFORD, Calif. - Ten Stanford varsity programs produced a perfect 1,000 score for the 2020-21 academic year, according to Wednesday's Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA.
The 10 programs checking in with 1,000 scores for the 2020-21 academic year include baseball, basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer and volleyball on the men's side while field hockey, golf, gymnastics and volleyball were represented among the women's sports.
Men's golf and women's golf also earned perfect 1,000 multi-year scores, which measures data collected over a span of four academic years (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21). Overall, nine men's teams and 10 women's programs also scored 990 or higher in the multi-year rate.
Four programs – baseball, men's basketball, men's golf and women's golf – posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all programs in their respective sports.
Tuesday's public announcement of APRs returned after a one-year hiatus following the most recent report from May 2020. The Division I Board of Directors voted earlier this spring to continue to suspend APR penalties for an additional year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it supported the public release of the APR data.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
