STANFORD, Calif. – The 2021-22 campaign was another successful year in the annals of Stanford men's tennis. The program posted a 19-6 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark at the Taube Family Tennis Center, and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals.
Recapping the Season
Stanford saw strong performances up and down its lineup, led by sophomore Arthur Fery's 24-8 singles record (11-5 dual). Freshman Max Basing went 23-4 in his first year on the Farm, and led the team with a sterling 18-2 record in dual matches. Axel Geller and Sangeet Sridhar joined the two underclassmen with double digit dual wins, while seven players had double-digit singles victories, with Alexandre Rotsaert, Aryan Chaudhary and Timothy Sah playing major roles.

The fall campaign saw deep tournament runs from Fery and Rotsaert at the ITA Fall National Championships. Fery reached the final in both singles and doubles, pairing with Rotsaert in the doubles event.

The Cardinal played 20 ranked opponents on the season, going 14-6 against those foes, including six wins over top-25 adversaries. The program traveled to UCF in January for the ITA Kickoff weekend, besting Tulane and UCF to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships. The team had early season wins over ranked USC and UCLA teams at Taube, before going 1-2 at the national event in Seattle.
The reigning Pac-12 Champions, Stanford went 6-2 in Pac-12 play to take third in the conference, and picked up an additional conference win in the Pac-12 Tournament. The Cardinal was sent to Cambridge, Massachusetts for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, with Stanford taking down Mississippi State in the first round, 4-0, and knocking off host Harvard in the second, 4-3.

Stanford's season ended in the super regionals at Baylor, with the Cardinal narrowly edged by the nation's No. 3 team, 4-3.
Fery Good Year
Arthur Fery emerged as one of the top players in the nation, and spent a two-week period in February as the nation's top-ranked player. He was the first No. 1 singles player at Stanford since Bob Bryan. Fery's dominant year earned him ITA All-America honors, while also garnering first team All-Pac-12 accolades from the conference. Fery ended the campaign ranked No. 11 in singles and No. 20 in doubles, alongside Rotsaert.

The Wimbledon native held a 12-8 singles mark against ranked opponents and a 10-4 record against foes from the Pac-12. He added five ranked wins over doubles opponents
Scholar-Athlete
Axel Geller's Stanford career came to a close with a flood of honors, as the Buenos Aires, Argentina native was named a first team CoSIDA Academic All-American, an honorable mention Pac-12 selection, giving him four All-Pac-12 honors in his career, and the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year. Geller joins an elite group at Stanford to have earned both All-America and Academic All-America awards in his career.
Geller posted a 12-6 singles record and a 12-8 doubles mark this season, and was ranked in the top-60 nationally in both events over the course of the year.

Hall of Fame Induction
Honored for his years of excellence on the Farm as a student-athlete and a coach, the Taube Family Director of Men's Tennis Paul Goldstein was inducted to the United States Tennis Association's Northern California Hall of Fame on Friday, June 10.
Goldstein is one of the most productive student-athletes in Stanford history, winning four NCAA Championships from 1995-98. He was the first player in NCAA history to compete as a starting member of four consecutive national championship teams. He is a five-time All-American, a three-time Pac-10 Champion and was the 1998 Pac-10 Player of the Year.
Goldstein has won 131 matches as Stanford's head coach, boasting wins in more than 70 percent of the Cardinal's matches since 2014. Stanford has won two Pac-12 championships under Goldstein with an NCAA berth in each of his seasons leading the program. Eight players have earned All-American status under Goldstein's watch.
