STANFORD, Calif. – On the heels of Stanford's victory over California from the Cal Benefit Cup on Saturday, senior Riley Loos and freshman Asher Hong have been named College Gymnastics Association Gymnast and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Loos, named MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday for the fourth time in his career, earns his first career Gymnast of the Week honor from the CGA. The native of El Dorado Hills, Calif. had previously been named CGA Specialist of the Week on March 16, 2021.

Loos captured the all-around title at the 2023 Cal Benefit Cup with an 82.550 to help the Cardinal defeat California 410.500-394.950. The all-around score is the best in the nation so far this year. Loos also won the still rings event title with a national-best score of 14.850 – topping his previous career high of 14.600 to win the 2022 NCAA national title. With Loos leading the way, Stanford totaled 71.750 on rings to open the season.

Making his collegiate debut, Hong won a pair of events from the Cal Benefit Cup. The native of Tomball, Texas claimed the parallel bars crown with a national-best 14.550 and finished atop the podium on floor at 14.350 – the highest score in the nation among freshmen. His 14.800 on rings placed second behind Loos, while his 14.450 on vault paced the Cardinal and was second overall.

No. 1 Stanford returns to competition on Saturday when it travels to the Rocky Mountain Open hosted by Air Force. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. PT.
