BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 13 Stanford men's tennis was defeated for the first time this season, falling to Pac-12 rival California in a non-conference match on Friday, 4-3.
The Cardinal was tripped up in doubles, falling on courts one and three as the Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead in the match.
Aryan Chaudhary delivered an early win on court four in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, but Cal responded with three straight wins to clinch the match. Max Basing earned a ranked win on court two, 7-6 (1), 7-5, while Samir Banerjee won in three sets on court three, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
The Cardinal returns to the court on Sunday, Jan. 22 at Taube Family Tennis Center against Santa Clara. The action begins at noon.
