AUSTIN, Texas – Behind a career-high 21 kills from freshman Theo Snoey, No. 8 Stanford defeated No. 15 Lewis, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22, Friday, in the First Point Collegiate Challenge in the Austin Convention Center.
Stanford improved to 5-0, tying for its best start to a season since 2019, while Lewis dropped to 3-3. The Cardinal out hit the Flyers, .339 to .282, and held a 4-1 edge in aces and a 44-38 advantage in digs.
Snoey's 21 kills came on 32 swings with just five miscues for a .500 clip. The opposite also tallied seven digs, two blocks and two aces.
An Austin native, setter Nathan Lietzke dished out 45 assists to go with nine digs, three kills and a block. Libero Justin Lui collected a match-high 13 digs.
Outside hitter Will Rottman did a little bit of everything, recording 12 kills, a career-high seven assists, six digs, two aces and a solo block. Outside hitter Kevin Lamp added 10 kills, six digs and three blocks.
Middle blocker Ethan Hill tallied seven kills on .429 hitting and four blocks, while Nathaniel Gates had five kills and two blocks and two digs.
Lewis was led by outside hitter Max Roquet's 18 kills on .311 hitting, six digs and two blocks, while Christian Prayer had 11 kills, four digs and two blocks.
The Cardinal will close out the weekend on Saturday against No. 4 Penn State. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT in the Austin Convention Center.
