SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Alex Rottman's season-high 15 kills led No. 7 Stanford to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 win over UC Santa Cruz, Saturday, at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Facing the previously unbeaten Banana Slugs (7-1), Stanford (6-1) hit .329 as a team while holding UC Santa Cruz to an opponent season-low .096.
Rottman's 15 kills came on 25 swings with just one miscue for a career-best .560 attack percentage. The freshman also collected three digs, two blocks and his first collegiate ace.
Senior middle blocker Adam Chang hit .500 with six kills and a match-high six blocks. Freshman Moses Wagner made his first career start at opposite, registering six kills, three blocks and an ace.
Freshman Theoren Brouillette started his second consecutive match at setter, totaling 27 assists, six digs and a career-best three blocks and his first collegiate ace.
Junior Aidan Peters donned the libero jersey on Saturday, finishing with five digs and an assist. Freshman Ryan DuRoss came off the bench in the first and third sets, tallying the first kill and block of his career.
Stanford played a 6-2 with setter Chris Kelly and opposite Hunter Dickey subbing in during the second and third sets. Kelly finished with three assists and two digs.
UC Santa Cruz was led by Leo Tuncer's 10 kills, while Colton Jeffrey chipped in with nine kills and eight digs.
The Cardinal remains on the road next week, traveling to CSUN on Friday and The Master's University on Saturday.
