Card Clipped by Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Hitting the road for the first contest of the calendar year, Stanford could not slow down a hot-shooting Cal team, 92-70, on Friday at Haas Pavilion.

Michael Jones led the Cardinal with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Spencer Jones had 13 and Isa Silva and Maxime Raynaud finished with 12 apiece. The 12 points for Silva matched his career high. The Cardinal shot 50 percent as a team from the floor.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair despite a flurry of Golden Bear triples. Raynaud scored 10 points within the first 7:30, making all five of his attempts from the floor. Spencer Jones leveled the game at 32-32 after scoring seven consecutive points with five minutes to play, but a Cal run gave the home team a 45-37 edge at the break.

The 3-pointers continued to fall for Cal in the second half, which ended 16-for-22 from deep in the game despite entering the contest with the seventh-lowest percentage as a team in the country. Silva had 10 points in the second half to lead the Cardinal.

Stanford continues Pac-12 action on the road, heading to Seattle to face Washington on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. on FS1.
