Card Outlasts Red Flash

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by Will Rottman, No. 9 Stanford came from behind to defeat Saint Francis, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.

Rottman finished with a match-high 21 kills on .341 hitting, three digs, two aces and a block. In two matches the senior is averaging 4.00 kills per set on a .381 attack percentage and 0.67 aces per set.
 


Stanford, which improved to 2-0, hit .341 as a team and finished with 7.0 blocks, five aces and 29 digs. Saint Francis dropped to 0-2, hitting .283 on Saturday with 10.5 blocks, six aces and 35 digs.

Redshirt junior Ethan Hill was lights out from the middle, matching his career-high with 14 kills on 19 errorless swings to hit .737. He also tallied a season-best three blocks and matched his career-high with three digs.
 


Setter Nathan Lietzke racked up 52 assists, seven digs, four blocks and three kills for the Cardinal. Libero Justin Lui totaled eight digs and three assists. For the weekend, the redshirt senior was perfect on serve receive with zero reception errors on 44 total attempts.
 


Freshman opposite Theo Snoey recorded 13 kills on .318 hitting, six digs and two blocks, while senior middle blocker Nathaniel Gates added five kills and three blocks.
 


Senior Kevin Lamp started the match at outside hitter and notched five kills, two digs, a block and an ace in four sets played. Junior Luke Turner replaced him in the second set and played the third for the Cardinal, finishing with two kills.

Saint Francis had three players register double-digit kills, led by Nathan Zini's 16. Andrew Deardorff hit .500 with 15 kills, while freshman Brady Stump also posted 15 kills for the Red Flash.

Stanford remains on The Farm next week, playing host to No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday in Burnham Pavilion.
