Rainbow Warriors Take Round One

STANFORD, Calif. – In a top-10 battle, No. 8 Stanford dropped a 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 decision to No. 1 Hawai'i, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.

Hawai'i (8-0), which boasts the nation's longest win streak at 17, hit .440 as a team and led in every statistical category. Stanford (7-3) posted a .276 attack percentage and finished with 22 digs, 5.5 blocks and three aces.

Outside hitter Will Rottman had a match-high 13 kills to go with three blocks and three assists. Middle blocker Ethan Hill hit .571 with eight kills on 14 errorless swings, while opposite Theo Snoey chipped in with nine kills on .312 hitting, and had all three of Stanford's aces.
 


Setter Nathan Lietzke controlled the offense with 30 assists and had seven digs, two blocks and a kill. Libero Justin Lui also recorded seven digs.

Outside hitter Kevin Lamp finished with six kills, three digs and a block. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates had a team-best four blocks and two kills.
 


The Rainbow Warriors, who have won 21 consecutive sets, were led by Dimitrios Mouchlias and Spyros Chakas. Mouchlias had 12 kills on .391 hitting and five blocks, while Chakas added 11 kills on a .375 attack percentage, six digs and two blocks.

Stanford and Hawaii meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
