Eighth Career Victory

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – For the eighth time in 15 career collegiate events, Rose Zhang was victorious following a 6-under 207 to win the Therese Hession Regional Challenge by three shots on Tuesday at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Zhang is now tied with Rachel Heck and Mhairi McKay for second all-time at Stanford for career victories, and just one shy of Andrea Lee's school record of nine.

Zhang fired rounds of 68, 68 and 71 on the 6,017-yard, par 71 course to claim the win. She has now won four times in five events this season. In 15 career events, Zhang has eight wins, 12 top-two finishes, 13 top-five marks and 14 top-10s. Her only career finish outside the Top 10 is a tie for 12th. In 46 career rounds, Zhang has amassed a 69.4 career scoring average, playing 23 rounds in the 60s and 40 at even-par or better.

As a team, Stanford finished second at 11-over. The Cardinal was without both Rachel Heck and Brooke Seay during the event, as its No. 2 and No. 3 golfers were out due to injuries. Despite being short-handed, Stanford was better than seven Top-25 teams and 10 Top-40 teams in the deep field: No. 6 San Jose State, No. 8 Texas, No. 13 Arizona, No. 15 USC, No. 18 SMU, No. 22 Kentucky, No. 25 Florida, No. 26 Baylor, No. 35 Ohio State, No. 37 Pepperdine.

The Cardinal began the day with a two-shot lead, but couldn't hold on as Oregon fired a round of 4-under on Tuesday to pick up the win, five shots clear of Stanford. The difference came down to the end, as the Cardinal was a combined 12-over on its final two holes while the Ducks were even par.

Zhang receives an exemption into the LPGA's DIO Implant LA Open at Palos Verdes Golf Club from March 30-April 2 for her victory, which happens to be played at the same time as the Augusta National Women's Amateur, which she has also received an invitation to. Next up for Stanford is the Battle of the Bay next Tuesday at CordeValle Golf Club against San Jose State.
