CHICAGO – Locked in a battle that went down to the wire, No. 17 Stanford men's tennis fell to No. 4 Michigan, 4-2, in the round of 16 at the ITA Indoor National Championships. The Cardinal will take on Tennessee in a consolation match on Saturday.
The Cardinal claimed the doubles point with a pair of victories, on courts one and three. Nishesh Basavareddy and Arthur Fery tallied a 6-4 win over the nation's sixth-ranked pair, while Aryan Chaudhary and Filip Kolasinski scored a 6-4 clinching result in the third position.
Fery continued the momentum in singles, winning in straight sets over the ITA's seventh-ranked singles player. His win leveled the match at 2-2, as Michigan put up points on courts two and three. Tiebreakers went the Wolverines' way, helping the Big Ten team advance to the quarterfinal.
