Outlasted in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – Bringing a close to its road trip to Southern California, Stanford men's basketball was defeated by USC, 85-75, on Saturday night in the Galen Center.

Harrison Ingram led four Stanford players in double figures with 15 points, along with a game-leading nine rebounds, while Michael Jones had 14 points and Spencer Jones and Brandon Angel pitched in 11 apiece. Michael O'Connell had nine points and a game-high seven assists.

The Cardinal scored 38 points in the paint, against just 22 for USC, with 13 coming on second chances. The team shot 46 percent from the floor for the game and 40 percent (8-for-20) from 3-point range.

Stanford jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first half after two baskets apiece from Spencer Jones and Angel, but USC responded to tie the game at 15-15 six minutes later. The Trojans used an 11-0 run at the end of the first half to take control, leading 41-30 at the intermission.

The Cardinal outscored USC in the second half, 45-44, but the Cardinal could not build a run to mount a late charge. Ingram scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Michael Jones had 10 second period points.

Stanford returns to Maples Pavilion for its final two home games of the regular season, welcoming Washington State Feb. 23 and Washington Feb. 26.
