Schultz Hot at the Plate

ATHENS, Ga. -- Senior Emily Schultz racked up four RBIs to help lead the No. 19 Stanford Cardinal over the St. John's (NY) Red Storm 6-1 on Sunday, giving Stanford a weekend sweep.

Junior Regan Krause (1-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Stanford (8-2). The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Senior Alana Vawter also made an impact in the circle for the Cardinal, throwing three scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Schultz went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple in addition to her four RBIs for the Cardinal. Senior Taylor Gindlesperger put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman River Mahler also chipped in for Stanford, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinal got on the scoreboard first off of Schultz's triple, bringing in two runners.

St. John's responded with a run in the fourth, the sole run for the team. Stanford picked up two runs in the fifth, the big hit being an RBI double from Mahler, which brought the Cardinal lead to 4-1.

Stanford kept St. John's (NY) without a run before building their lead to 6-1 the following inning. The Cardinal drove two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Schultz that brought home senior Kaitlyn Lim and sophomore Ella Nadeau. Stanford held off St. John's for the resto of the game, coasting to a 6-1 win.
