Cardinal Blanks Demon Deacons in Chicago

CHICAGO – Closing the ITA Indoor National Championships with a win, No. 17 Stanford men's tennis rushed past No. 9 Wake Forest, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon. The win is the Cardinal's second over a ranked opponent this season.

For the second time in three matches in Chicago, Stanford jumped ahead early in doubles. Nishesh Basavareddy and Arthur Fery clipped their opponents in the top spot, 6-2, while Samir Banerjee and Filip Kolasinski were close behind on court two, 6-3, to give Stanford a 1-0 lead.

Fery pushed the lead to 2-0 with a straight set win in the top position, 6-2, 6-2, for his seventh at No. 1 singles this season. Samir Banerjee finished a three-set contest to put Stanford up 3-0, winning 12 of the final 15 games in the win. Neel Rajesh closed the match with his third clinching point of the season, dominating in his third set, 6-0.

Stanford returns to Taube Family Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 25 for a 1 p.m. battle with San Francisco.
