LA QUINTA, Calif. – Junior Michael Thorbjornsen is the solo leader after two rounds at The Prestige, currently sitting at 7-under 135, while Stanford sits in second place with 18 holes to play at PGA West's Greg Norman Course.
Afternoon play was suspended on Tuesday due to high winds, but the Cardinal and leaders Pepperdine had played in the morning and completed their rounds. Stanford currently sits at 10-under as a team, four shots off the lead.
Thorbjornsen's classmate, Karl Vilips, had Stanford's best round on Tuesday with a 3-under 68. Vilips is currently tied for seventh at 4-under for the tournament. Both Vilips and Thorbjornsen had three birdies and six pars on the back nine (Stanford started on No. 10) to begin the day.
Stanford continues to lead the field in Par 4 scoring (-5) and birdies (40) through two rounds.
Thorbjornsen leads the field in Par 5 scoring at 5-under, while his 14 birdies through two rounds are a tournament best.
Tuesday's second round was suspended due to high wind and will be resumed Wednesday morning. Baylor (-6) sits tied for third and is the best of the teams still with their second round left to finish. Thorbjornsen leads two golfers by one shot, while Baylor's Drew Wrightson (-5) still has three holes left to finish in his second round.
The third round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m.
At The Prestige Individual (Terra Lago North Course), freshman Dean Greyserman leads three Stanford golfers and is tied for ninth at 1-under.
