Best of the Best

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by the program's best score in Maples Pavilion dating back to at least 1999, No. 24 Cardinal earned its season-best score in a battle with No. 11 Oregon State, falling 198.075-197.575 Friday night in a Pac-12 conference battle.

Stanford's team score marked its fifth-best regular season score in school history and its top home score since 2004, when the Cardinal topped California 198.875-195.750 and set a new NCAA team score record. The Cardinal's score of 198.875 from 19 years ago still stands as the NCAA's best-ever team total. Accurate records of Stanford's performances date back to 1999.

Oregon State's Jade Carey led the way with a 10.000 score on both bars and floor, en route to a 39.875 all-around total, earning her the bars, beam, floor, and all-around titles.

The night was full of season and career-best efforts, led by senior Chloe Widner's career-best beam routine (9.950) and collegiate-best matching vault score (9.900). She finished the night with an all-around score of 39.625, a tenth better than her previous collegiate best (39.525 at Super 16, Jan. 6, 2023). Sophomore Brenna Neault made a statement on senior night, matching her career-best score on vault (9.875) and setting a collegiate-best floor mark of 9.925. Freshman Anna Roberts earned her career-best all-around total (39.575), led by a career-best matching effort on vault (9.900) and two new collegiate-best scores on beam (9.875) and floor (9.950).

Stanford started on vault with a season-best vault total of 49.275, led by Roberts and Widner's 9.900 scores and Neault's collegiate-best matching 9.875. Fifth year Madison Brunette earned a 9.825 while freshman Taralyn Nguyen rounded out scoring efforts with a 9.775.

The Cardinal then moved to bars, earning a team total of 49.475. Widner's 9.950 in the anchor spot was Stanford's best score, followed by a 9.900 from Neault, a 9.875 from freshman Claire Dean in the leadoff spot, and scores of 9.850 from junior Ira Alexeeva and Roberts.

Stanford continued its success on beam with a team mark of 49.375. Widner's new career-best effort (9.950) and a 9.900 routine from Alexeeva were the highlights of the rotation, while Roberts earned her collegiate-best total of 9.875, and in her final performance in Maples, junior Isabela Onyshko earned the same score. Dean and Neault rounded out the rotation, each earning scores of 9.775.

The Cardinal saved its best for last in its senior night matchup, scoring a 49.500 team total on floor, its season-best effort. Roberts and Neault's collegiate best totals of 9.950 and 9.925 led the Cardinal, while Brunette, Dean, and Nguyen each earned a 9.875.

Stanford now looks ahead to its next matchup, traveling to Los Angeles, Calif. to take on No. 5 UCLA Bruins in Pauley Pavilion March 5. The meeting of conference foes is set for 12 p.m. PT and will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
