Two Shutouts

STANFORD, Calif. -- Pitchers Alana Vawter and NiJaree Canady threw a pair of shutouts on Saturday for No. 16 Stanford, beating Michigan 5-0 and Boise State 4-0.

Vawter (5-1) went the distance for Stanford (12-2), giving up five hits, walking none and striking out three. Canady (5-0) threw her fourth shutout, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out five.

In the batter's box against the Wolverines, the Cardinal were paced by junior Caelan Koch, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Senior T. Gindlesperger compiled a standout performance at the dish as well with a triple. Freshman Emily Jones also helped out for Stanford, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.

In game two against the Broncos, the Cardinal were paced by junior Caelan Koch, who notched her second home run of the day. Freshman Emily Jones furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Allie Clements also chipped in for Stanford, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinal got on the board in the second, scoring when Emily Schultz brought in Emily Jones on an error.

The Cardinal then tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings, starting with a home run from Koch to left field. Schultz also batted in Kaitlyn Lim for the second run of the inning. Two additional runs came across when a single from Koch brought home sophomore Ella Nadeau and Gindlesperger.
