Stanford Sweeps at Home

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Stanford claimed its second regatta victory in three competitions of the spring season over the weekend, taking both first and second place in the Jeremy McIntyre Memorial Open Team Race.

"Impressive teamwork from the whole group today," said Stanford Sailing Head Coach Chris Klevan. "Both teams' sailing worked well together and, in doing so, it seems our young talent is learning quickly from veterans such as Michelle Lahrkamp and Hannah Freeman."

Cardinal 1, comprised of skippers Michelle Lahrkamp, Ellie Harned, Vanessa Lahrkamp, Hannah Freeman, Sophie Fisher, and crews Patricia Gerli, Abigail Tindall, and Grace Austin, won each of their team races, going 15-0 through three rounds of competition.

"Both Freeman and the elder Lahrkamp were able to watch the freshmen drivers close the regatta for Stanford 1, sailing all races in the final round and protecting the undefeated record the starters had built," added Klevan.

Meanwhile, the Cardinal 2, with skippers Chapman Petersen, Jack Baldwin, Justin Lim, and crews AnaClare Sole, Isabelle McNabb, and Gwendolyn Donahue took second overall in the event, winning 12 of their 15 races. The only three losses for Cardinal 2 came against Cardinal 1.

Cardinal 2 was able to nab an individual first place finish against Cardinal 1, however. In the third round matchup, Cardinal 1 finished in second, third, and fourth, winning the contest, but gave up the first spot to the second Stanford squid.

The McIntyre Team Race marked Stanford's last home regatta prior to the PCCSC Open Team Race Championship over the weekend of April 8-9.

Stanford returns to action next weekend in Charleston, South Carolina, in the Phoebe Corkran King Women's Team Race.
