STANFORD, Calif. - Cameron Brink was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row, leading a group of five Cardinal with Pac-12 postseason accolades from the coaches' vote, announced Tuesday morning.
In addition to her defensive superlative, Brink was also named to the 16-player All-Pac-12 team, joined by teammates Haley Jones and Hannah Jump. Brink was one of five players on the All-Defensive team, while rookies Lauren Betts and Talana Lepolo were honorable mentions for the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
Brink's honor is the seventh Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year for Stanford since the award began in 2008 and third straight after winning it last year and Anna Wilson earning it the season before. She is the first from Stanford to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Chiney Ogwumike won it three straight years from 2012-14.
The Cardinal has placed at least two players on the All-Pac-12 team since the conference changed the format to a 15-player list in 2010. Stanford's 90 All-Pac-12 selections all-time lead the league. Stanford has had at least one player on the All-Defensive team in 14 of the award's 16 years. Regarded as one of the top defensive players in the nation, this is also Cameron Brink's second appearance on the All-Pac-12 team and All-Defensive team, in addition to her superlative award. The nation's second-leading shot blocker, Brink totaled 109 blocks in the regular season, averaging 3.52 per game, both single-season program records. Her 109 blocks this season currently rank seventh in Pac-12 history and are the most for any player outside the state of Oregon. Brink's recently broke the Stanford record for career blocks and her 288 career swats rank fourth in Pac-12 history. Also averaging 14.5 points and 9.4 rebounds, Brink is one of two players in the country averaging more than 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocks this season (Taiyanna Jackson - Kansas), something that has not been done in the Pac-12 in records dating back to 1999-2000. She became the first player in program history and second in Pac-12 history to record a triple-double with points, rebounds and blocks, doing so Jan. 29 against Oregon. She leads the Cardinal in scoring, rebounding, blocks and made free throws.
Just one of 16 Stanford players to be named to the All-Pac-12 Team three different times, Haley Jones has continued to solidify her status as one of the most versatile players in the nation. She ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding, leading the Cardinal in assists and steals. She recently became the first player in program history (and Pac-12 history dating back to at least 1999-00) to own over 1,400 points, 800 rebounds, 350 assists and 100 blocks in her career. Jones currently ranks 19th in the Stanford record books for career scoring, nearly 1,500 points, and will soon enter the top-10 for career rebounding. She's featured 21 double-digit scoring efforts this season, along with 11 double-doubles, and has led the team in scoring 10 times. At times playing every position, 1-5, Jones is the only player in the nation averaging at least 13 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
After being named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year just yesterday, Hannah Jump has earned her first ever appearance on the All-Pac-12 team. She is tied for fourth nationally with 92 3-pointers made and also tops the Conference and is 11th in the country in 3-pointers per game (2.97). She has increased her averages in scoring, assists and minutes in each of her four years on The Farm and surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone in the regular-season finale at Utah. She currently is fourth in program history and ninth in Pac-12 history with 275 career 3-pointers made. A 44.0-percent shooter from deep this season, which is 11th in the country, her .420 career 3-point percentage would be third all-time at Stanford. The Cardinal is 46-2 the past four years when Jump scores in double figures.
Lauren Betts and Talana Lepolo each earned honorable mention status to the All-Freshman team, both featuring standout moments in their rookie seasons. Lepolo has made 27 starts for the Cardinal at the point guard position and her 107 assists through the first 30 games of her career are the second-most by a Stanford freshman since at least 1999. She's featured three double-digit scoring performances and ranks third on the team in made 3-pointers. Betts, tied for the tallest player in program history, has come on strong of late for the Cardinal, featuring five double-digit scoring efforts in her last seven games. She ranks fifth on the team in scoring and fourth in rebounding and is shooting over 60 percent from the floor, a mark that would rank as the third-highest of any freshman in program history.
Stanford begins the Pac-12 Tournament in the quarterfinals, set to face the winner of No. 8 Washington and No. 9 Oregon on Thursday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m.
