STANFORD, Calif. – Having both earned spots on the U.S. Senior National Team following the Winter Cup, Asher Hong and Khoi Young have been named Rookie and co-Specialist of the Week, respectively, by College Gymnastics Association.
For Hong, the Rookie of the Week selection is the fourth of his career (Jan. 18, Jan. 25, Feb. 15), while he has also been named Gymnast of the Week once (Feb. 15).
This week marks the first Specialist of the Week selection for Young, while he has been named Gymnast of the Week once (Feb. 2, 2022) and was Rookie of the Week four times in 2022.
The duo was also named Freshman and Specialist of the Week in the MPSF on Tuesday. Sophomore Ian Lasic-Ellis won Gymnast of the Week as Stanford swept the conference honors.
Hong earned his spot on the U.S. Senior National Team after placing third overall in the all-around competition (81.948) on day one from the Winter Cup. The native of Tomball, Texas turned in the second-highest score on vault on day one (14.755), was third overall on horizontal bar (13.650), and fourth on still rings (14.133) and parallel bars (14.700).
Young posted the highest combined score on vault with a 29.554 at the 2023 Winter Cup to earn his spot with Team USA. Young hit for an event-best 14.802 on day one before registering a 14.752 on day two.
The Cardinal will return to action this weekend when it hosts California and Illinois for Senior Day on Saturday at Burnham Pavilion. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
