First and Third Place Finishes

St. Mary's Women's Team Race Results Opens in a new window Bob Bavier Open Team Race Results Opens in a new window

SAINT MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Cardinal won its fourth regatta of the spring season over the weekend, taking first place out of 12 teams at the St. Mary's College Women's Team Race. Stanford also added a third place finish in the Bob Bavier Open Team Race, improving Stanford's record in the spring to six straight top-three finishes.

In Maryland, Stanford was perfect in each of its races, taking all 11 victories. Six of Stanford's wins were clean sweeps, taking races against Harvard, Yale, St. Mary's College, Charleston, Hobart & William, and South Florida with first, second, and third place boats.

"The conditions were very tricky and the team did the important things like getting off the line very well," said assistant sailing coach Shawn Harvey. "They were never chasing or losing a race after the start all regatta."

Seven Stanford sailors competed in the regatta. Hannah Freeman, Michelle Lahrkamp, and Vanessa Lahrkamp took control of skipper duties while Sophie Fisher, Abigail Tindall, Ellie Harned, and Grace Austin handled the crew positions.

In Charleston, South Carolina, at the Bob Bavier Open Team Race, Stanford sailed well, falling only behind Tulane in second and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in first place. Stanford finished the weekend with a 12/7 record after three rounds of racing.

"This weekend, we saw a team that was willing and able to learn from their mistakes," said The Malin Burnham Assistant Sailing Coach Augie Dale. "Between Saturday and Sunday, there were vast improvements all around race course. A highlight from the weekend was one, five, six, to play one conversion orchestrated by Justin Lim and Trish Gerli to take the victory over Tulane seconds before the finish."

Six sailors lined up for the Cardinal in South Carolina, led by skippers Chapman Petersen, Justin Lim, and Jack Baldwin. AnaClare Sole, Patricia Gerli, and Gwendolyn Donahue handled the crew duties.

Stanford returns to action next weekend, competing in the South Designate in Los Angeles.
