Four to Nationals

STANFORD, Calif. – Four Stanford fencers were selected to compete at the National Collegiate Men's and Women's Championships on March 23-26 in Durham, North Carolina.

Stanford's selections match the Cardinal's four conference champions – junior Donghwan Park (men's saber), freshman Crystal Qian (women's foil), junior Irene Yeu (women's epee), and junior Joy Yun (women's saber).

This will be the third NCAA appearance for Park, a two-time All-American, and the second each for Yeu and Yun, who each earned All-America honors as freshmen.

Park, Qian, and Yun won NCAA West Region titles on Saturday and followed with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation individual championships on Sunday.

At the NCAA Championships, there will be 24 competitors in each division. Fencers will compete in a six-person round-robin format of five-touch bouts, with the top four finishers in each weapon advancing to the 15-touch semifinals. The first two days of the NCAA schedule are devoted to the men and the final two to the women. Twenty-eight schools will be represented.

The tournament will be held at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. It opens Thursday with the first three rounds of each weapon. Park begins at 10:30 a.m. PT on Thursday and at 6 a.m. PT for the fourth and fifth rounds on Friday, followed by championship bouts at 10:30 a.m. PT.

The women begin Saturday with the first three rounds of the epee (6 a.m. PT), foil (8 a.m. PT), and saber (10:30 a.m. PT). On Sunday, the fourth and fifth rounds begin at 6 a.m. PT for all three weapons, and the championship bouts at 10:30 a.m. PT.

The overall season records for each of Stanford's qualifying fencers, in order of winning percentage: Yun, 33-7 (.825); Park, 50-14 (.781); Qian, 37-11 (.771); Yeu, 44-18 (.710).

A live feed of semifinal and final bouts will be available at 10:30 a.m. PT on ESPN+. Semifinals and finals, along with other championships highlights, will air on ESPNU at 11 a.m. PT on April 6.
