STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford was unable to satisfy a strong men's volleyball crowd at Burnham Pavilion on Friday night, falling to UCLA, 25-12, 25-12, 25-12.
The No. 10 Cardinal fell to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the No. 3 Bruins improved to 20-2 and 5-0.
There weren't many highlights for Stanford, which fell behind quickly in each set and never recovered. Stanford had five kills each from Kevin Lamp and Will Rottman, but hit minus-.076 as a team, to UCLA's .537. Nathan Lietzke led the Cardinal with 14 assists.
However, even in a loss, Stanford did have some moments. The biggest might have been a solo block from Adam Chang in the second set and brought the crowd of 839 to its feet.
Lietzke surprised the Bruins with an ace in the third set and Luke Turner had a nice kill off the bench.
Stanford will attempt to half its four-match losing streak in a rematch against UCLA on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Burnham Pavilion.
