BERKELEY, Calif. -- Playing in its final match before finals week, No. 8 Stanford fell in the Big Spike to No. 11 California, 3-2, at the Clark Kerr Courts in Berkeley, Calif.
Stanford started the match with two wins on courts four and five, as freshman duo Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent earned its 15th victory as a duo in a three-set battle on court four while freshman Daria Gusarova and junior Emmy Sharp also went to three sets on court five, coming out victorious after the Golden Bears fought back into the match with a second-set win. California then took the next three courts, winning on courts one and two in two-set battles and topping the Cardinal in a three-set clash on court three.
The Cardinal now breaks for finals week, next welcoming Bay Area foes San José State and USF to The Farm for two Monday midday matchups. The contests with the Dons and Spartans are set for 12 and 2 p.m., respectively.
