Four Named Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas - Leon MacAlister, Preston Forst, Ron Polonsky, and Luke Maurer were all named College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans on Tuesday morning. MacAlister, Forst, and Polonsky earned first team honors while Maurer was named to the second team.

MacAlister was one of only three repeats on the Division I team, after earning third team honors in 2021-22. The Division I team boasted a 3.85 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.87.

MacAlister, a senior set to return for a fifth year next season, has been a dominant force for Stanford over the last two seasons, owning five program records while earning five All-American selections and two Pac-12 titles. The Sydney, Australia native was named the 2023 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming, has been named to two Pac-12 Academic Honor Rolls, and was named a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American.

Forst, also a five-time All-American, has been one of the best middle distance freestyle swimmers in program history. A Pac-12 Champion a year ago in the 500 free, Forst ranks second in program history in both the 200 free and 500 free and owns the Stanford record in the 800 free relay. Forst is also a Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection and was named a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American.

Polonsky, an Olympian for Israel in 2021, has quickly become one of the best breaststroke and IM swimmers Stanford has ever seen. The sophomore is already a six-time All-American, two-time Pac-12 Champion, and a four-time Stanford record holder. He was also named a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American and ranks second in the program record book in both the 200 IM and 400 IM. 

Maurer, Stanford's fourth Academic All-American of 2023, has been a consistent contributor during his three years on The Farm. A seven-time All-American and a Pac-12 Champion in the 400 medley relay in 2022, Maurer owns three program records and is among the top-ten in both the 100 and 200 free. The junior was also name to the 2022 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and was a  2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American.
