Alexa Rossum was named as the year's first Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the season-opening Cardinal Classic on Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Rossum, a senior economics major from Atlanta and a junior in eligibility, won the 200 meters in a meet record 23.37 and followed by running the second leg on Stanford's winning 4x400 relay.
Rossum broke the 200 Cardinal Classic mark of 23.69 by Florida State's Shauna Helps in 2017. Rossum's time is the 10-fastest outdoor time in the country this year and the fastest in the Pac-12.
The relay team of Samantha Thomas, Rossum, Cydney Wright, and Anna Tovkach ran 3:39.11, which ranks No. 7 outdoors and is No. 1 in the Pac-12.
This is the first conference Athlete of the Week honor for Rossum, who earned her first All-America honor a little more than a week ago – leading off Stanford's 12th-place 4x400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Rossum also was an Olympic Trials qualifier in 2021 in the 200, and NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier in the 100 and 200 the same year.
