LOS ANGELES -- No. 6 Stanford was shut out for the first time this season, 4-0, in the first game of the series against No. 3 UCLA at Easton Stadium.
Right hander Alana Vawter (12-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Stanford (28-4, 5-2 Pac-12), striking out four. The last time the Cardinal was shutout was against Oregon State in the Super Regionals.
Taylor Gindlesperger led the way offensively for the Cardinal, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame.
Stanford recorded four hits and four walks but was unable to bring in a run. The Bruins' first two runs came across in the third, followed by two more for insurance in the sixth.
The series will continue Saturday at 7 p.m.
