STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Quinn Mathews has been selected as one of Collegiate Baseball's national players of the week after striking out a career-best 13 hitters in a victory over California on Thursday night.
Mathews struck out the 13 over seven innings of work while allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. The 13 strikeouts eclipsed Mathews' previous high of 11 in games against Washington State (3/26/22) and at No. 3 Oregon State (4/3/22). The left-hander threw 113 pitches to work the seven frames as Stanford defeated California 8-7 en route to sweeping the Golden Bears in a three-game series.
Mathews, carrying a 4-2 record on the year, enters the week ranked third in the Pac-12 in ERA (2.58) and second in strikeouts (66).
The Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week selection is the second of Mathews' career after previously being lauded on April 4, 2022.
