Hits Hurt Cardinal

SALT LAKE CITY – No. 5 Stanford fell to No. 25 Utah, giving up the most hits it has all season, in its 4-1 loss on Friday at the Dumke Family Softball Stadium.

Alana Vawter (14-4) got the ball to start for Stanford (31-7, 8-5) and took the loss. Regan Krause came in as relief in the fifth, and threw two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Trailing 1-0, Emily Young came across to score the lone run for Stanford in the fourth. Utah then scored three runs in the fifth, two unearned. The Cardinal could not respond and fell in game one of the series.

GAME NOTES
» Stanford pitchers faced 32 Utah hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and two fly balls while striking out six.
» Gindlesperger led the Cardinal at the plate, going 1-for-4.
» Utah recorded 12 hits, the most Stanford has conceded this season with the next highest coming against Oregon State.
