Two More Conference Titles

PCCSC Women's Team Race Championship Results Opens in a new window PCCSC Women's Fleet Race Championship Results Opens in a new window

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Stanford took the crowns in both the PCCSC Women's Team Race and Women's Fleet Race Championships, securing national championship berths in both events. It was Stanford's 18th straight conference title in the fleet race and second straight in the team race which began in 2022.

The Cardinal were dominant in the team race, taking the top spot with a 12-0 record among the field of five. Eight of the team's 12 wins were by 1-2-3 sweeps.

Hawaii was the second place finisher in the team race, finishing with an 8-4 record.

The Cardinal had a full roster of sailors, with each competing in races as both a crew and skipper. Vanessa Lahrkamp, Abigail Tindall, Ellie Harned, Grace Austin, Sophie Fisher, and Lauren Taylor represented Stanford in Santa Barbara.

"The team had a blast this weekend with everyone getting a chance to skipper," said the Malin Burnham Assistant Sailing Coach Augie Dale. "They did this all while going undefeated in team racing and winning by over 100 points in fleet racing."

In the fleet race, the team was just as dominant, finishing in first place by a wide margin. The Cardinal topped the field of eight teams with a score of 53, 105 points ahead of second place Hawaii.

Of the 14 races in the A division, Stanford finished first overall in nine of them, and never finished below fourth place. In the B division, Stanford was in the top three for all but one of the races.

Vanessa Lahrkamp and Sophie Fisher handled the skipper role for the A boat, with Abigail Tindall and Lauren Taylor handling the crew position. In the B boat, Ellie Harned and Grace Austin worked together handling the skipper and crew duties for all 14 races.

By winning both events, Stanford advances to each ICSA Championship event, with the ICSA Women's Team Race Championship taking place over the weekend of April 29-30. The Cardinal will host the women's team race, first of the four championships, and then will travel to New York for the  ICSA Women's Fleet Race Championship in May.

The Cardinal also competed in the Thompson Trophy over the weekend, however the wind did not allow for enough races to be completed for the final score to count.

Stanford will be back in action next weekend at the PCCSC Open Fleet Race Championship, the fourth and final conference title, and at the Admiral's Cup hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
