STANFORD, Calif. - A double off the left field wall by Allie Clements propelled No. 8 Stanford to a 2-1 walk-off win over Cal in eight innings, Friday, at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, second baseman River Mahler led off with an infield single to second. Catcher Aly Kaneshiro then reached on a fielder's choice, bringing up Clements. The designated hitter went deep to left as Kaneshiro was waved home. Initially called out at the plate, the call was overturned following an official review and Kaneshiro was deemed safe.

In the circle, NiJaree Canady had everything working, fanning eight Cal hitters across 7.1 innings of work. The freshman gave up two hits and allowed just her second run of the season. Alana Vawter, who entered the game with one out in the top of the eighth, picked up the win for Stanford (33-9, 9-7 Pac-12 ), throwing 0.2 innings for the Cardinal. Vawter is now 15-5 on the year.

Mahler finished 2-for-2 at the plate to go with two walks and an RBI, while Clements was 2-for-3 with a walk and the game-winning RBI double.

The teams were in a stalemate through four and a half innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Stanford struck first off an RBI single from Mahler, scoring Sydney Steele from second base. Cal rallied to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

The teams face off again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal is seeking its fourth Pac-12 series win of the season.
