Stanford Takes Down Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. -- Jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, No. 8 Stanford defeated Fresno State, 7-3, Wednesday, at Margie Wright Diamond.

Kylie Chung led the way offensively for the Cardinal, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Catcher Aly Kaneshiro was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while freshman River Mahler finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

NiJaree Canady (10-0) earned the win in the circle for Stanford (35-10), going four shutout innings. The freshman tallied six strikeouts while giving up just two hits without issuing a walk.

Stanford's offense clicked right away, putting up four runs in the first. Kaneshiro got things started, batting home two off a double to center field. Chung followed with a two-run shot to left field - her second long ball of the season.

Shortstop Emily Young drove in a run off a single up the middle in the third, scoring Kaneshiro from second. Taylor Gindlesperger and Mahler both scored in the fourth off a Bulldog error, pushing the Cardinal lead to 7-0.

Regan Krause replaced Canady in the circle to start the fifth, picking up two quick strikeouts. The junior found herself in a jam in the sixth, allowing all three Fresno State runs. Senior Alana Vawter threw the final 1.2 innings for the Cardinal, collecting a pair of strikeouts and her fourth save of the season.

Stanford will remain on the road, traveling to Arizona State Friday through Sunday for its second to last Pac-12 series of the season.
