Back in the Win Column

STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 7 Stanford started the week with a 5-1 win over No. 20 Arizona to get back in the win column on Thursday at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.

Senior Alana Vawter (13-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Stanford (29-6, 6-4 Pac-12). The right-hander threw a complete game, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

It was an even ball game to start off until a fielder's choice RBI from Kaneshiro got Stanford on the board. In the next at bat, Emily Schultz scored Emily Young in a similar play.

Allie Clements brought in the last three runs for the Cardinal, one in the fourth and two in the sixth off a two-out RBI double to bring the score to 5-1.  

Stanford will continue the Pac-12 series on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

GAME NOTES

» The Cardinal out-hit the Wildcats at a 5-4 clip.
» Stanford pitchers limited Arizona to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
» Vawter faced 27 Arizona hitters in the game, allowing 14 ground balls and four fly balls while striking out three.
» Clements led the Cardinal at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. This was her first career game with multiple RBI.
