Card Drops Thriller to USC

STANFORD, Calif. – Trading punches on a windy afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Center, No. 2 4 Stanford men's tennis was edged by No. 10 USC, 4-2, on Friday afternoon. The Cardinal moves to 11-7 on the season with a 2-2 mark in the Pac-12.

The Trojans took an early 1-0 lead in doubles, taking wins on courts one and three. The visitors carried the momentum into singles play to take a 3-0 lead with wins on courts four and five.

Stanford fought back with three-set triumphs in the top two positions. Samir Banerjee battled to a 6-4 third set win while Arthur Fery picked up a 6-4 win of his own minutes later. Both players scored crucial break points at 4-4 to control. The win was a team-leading 12th dual victory for both student-athletes.

Max Basing and Filip Kolasinski won their first sets, but Stanford was outlasted on court three, 7-5, in the third set to give USC the winning point.

The loss snapped a 21-match winning streak at Taube Family Tennis Center.

Stanford sees a quick turnaround to a matchup with No. 28 UCLA on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
